Writers have to give up their time, their efforts and sometimes even their safety in order to create a book. Therefore, they must be willing to give up a whole chapter for a single sentence or a whole scene for a single word. They also have to be willing to kill off characters they deeply care about in order to make the story flow smoothly.

Sometimes, they even have to sacrifice their own feelings of pride or disappointment to make sure the story gets told. In short, writers must be able to sacrifice everything for their art.
